Biography

Irina Sorokina

Irina Sorokina was born in Moscow. She graduated at Gnesin Academy of Music, becoming a choral conductor, teacher of music and solfeggio. She began to teach very early. In 1984 she started her journalistic activity. In 1990 she completed the courses of the Russian Academy of Dramatic Art and she was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree. After that she worked at the A.A. Bakhrushin State Theatrical Museum, for a ballet company (Moscow Classical Ballet) and for the New Opera theatre. Author of advertisings booklets for these companies, translating of librettos into the Russian language.

She has been living in Italy since 1994. As a musicologist, she participated in prestigious international conferences, including Opera in 1980th, organized by the Roman Institute of Researchers in Musical Theatre (IRTEM). Besides being the author of the Vocabulary of Russian Opera Singers, in her 25 years of journalistic activity she also published hundreds of articles about opera and ballet both in Russian and Italian.

She constantly cooperates with the Royal Academy of Dance as an official accompanist for the examinations and teacher courses. For R.A.D. summer schools she holds workshops about history of ballet and also plays the role of anchorwoman during the final evenings.

From 2000 she has been teaching music and history of ballet for the ballet students and teachers all over Italy. From 2006 she has been cooperating with Il Balletto school of ballet directed by Susanna Plaìno, one of the most important professional ballet centres in Italy.

As an accompanist she works with prominent teachers all around the world and she participates in ballet courses and summer schools in Italy and Austria.
